Author Janet Syas Nitsick recently completed a turn-of-the-century novel. Lockets and Lanterns begins with the 1904 marriage of Owen Sias and Edith Lenhart.

It is a love story like no other - a simple tale of survival sustained through God’s everlasting presence and the couple’s love for each other.

Historical facts and descriptions, such as the wedding scene of kerosene lamps and hard, walnut pews, gives the readers a glimpse of the past. But, no matter what the age, Owen and Edith’s life story will touch and warm your heart.

Janet’s first novel is loosely based on her grandfather, Warren Owen Syas, nicknamed Red for his red hair. He joined the Omaha Fire Department on Dec.19, 1917.
